Emek Movie Palace Support Site - HomeThis is a featured page

Welcome!

We are happy to see you visiting this site where your support, in the name of cinema and movie palaces, is sought.

Your contributions here will not cost you any money and can be provided in very little time.

All we request is your reviewing this page as well as http://www.emeksinemasiniyasatalim.org/english.htm and dropping a brief
e-mail reflective of your approval in protecting and promoting Emek Movie Palace in İstanbul, which is as old as the Turkish Republic and said to be one of the most elegant movie theaters in Europe. Now it is facing demolition due to global corporate interests.

Cinema has been denominated by Ricciotto Canudo [1879-1923], the first Film Theoretician, as the "Seventh Art" within the line of spatial [architecture-sculpture-painting] and temporal [music-dance-poetry] arts hence cinema is not only the "Seventh One," but also it consolidates all of the other "Six." of the other "Six." One of the interesting qualities of this "Seventh Art" has also been the relevance those movie houses, palaces and salons which are appreciated as unique places of their own because of their historical-cultural-social features. The movies, therefore, presented in those majestic settings where "the art within the art" display have always been admired by a given community, becoming the part of people's lives for generations.

Unfortunately, the speculative movements led by the global corporate system compromised this socio-romantic and artistic appreciation in last decades. All the old movie theaters were closed, abandoned and/or demolished, replaced by mega-structures serving the corporate interests such as business centers, malls, hotels, entertainment complexes and etc.

Despite today's technologies providing many advantages for our "comfort," human beings still do enjoy getting together, appreciating the art of the place where they enjoy watching movies, meeting with the other people and following the festivals and other special programs cultivated in such locations. Going to the movies may continue as long as the attendants feel that they are on their way to visit their popular "museum - historical art aesthetics of the movie house" in which a new "program - film" is displayed!

How can you support?
